Visitors

Does Artspace charge for entry?

No, admission to Artspace and its exhibitions is free.

Is Artspace wheelchair accessible?

Yes, we have universal access throughout The Gunnery building.

Where is the closest parking to Artspace?

There is limited street parking available in the Woolloomooloo area. The closest car park within a short walking distance of Artspace is The Wharf Woolloomooloo on Lincoln Crescent.

Can I bring my dog to Artspace?

Accredited assistance dogs are allowed throughout the building. Pet dogs are not permitted in the gallery spaces.

Can I take photographs in the gallery?

Artspace permits general photography without the use of flash or a tripod. We encourage the use of cameras on mobile devices to share your experience of our programs and space. If you wish to photograph or film artworks for publication or for professional use, you must seek copyright approval from our Communications Manager, Masha Jayasiri.

Artists

Are Artspace studios available for hire or rent?

No, Artspace studios are not available for hire or rent. Our 10 rent-free studios are managed through our One Year Studio Artists Program. Once a year, Artspace facilitates a call-out that is open to artists of all disciplines and at all stages of their career. This is a merit-based application system, which assesses artists’ past work, exhibition history, and the potential for creative development. You can sign up to our mailing list to be notified when applications open.

Can I propose an exhibition at Artspace?

Artspace’s exhibition program is developed by our curatorial team. We do not accept unsolicited exhibition proposals from artists, curators, or their representatives.

Each year, Artspace stages an open call-out for proposals for our Ideas Platform. You can sign up to our mailing list to be notified when applications open.

Does Artspace have a permanent collection, and can I propose my work for acquisition?

Artspace is a non-collecting institution. We do not maintain a permanent collection nor do we accept proposals for acquisition from artists or their representatives.

Is Artspace available to hire for exhibitions?

No, the Artspace galleries are not available to hire for public exhibitions.

Tours and Classes

Does Artspace do guided tours?

We do not conduct regular public tours, but we often facilitate curator-led tours and artist talks for specific public programs related to our exhibitions. We encourage you to contact us via email to arrange a visit. If you would like to remain informed about upcoming public programs, please sign up to our mailing list.

Does Artspace run art classes?

​Artspace does not run instructional art classes.

Does Artspace run educational classes for school and community groups?

We welcome community groups and school groups of all ages. If you would like to bring your class or group to Artspace, we encourage you to contact us in advance. Our curators will often be able to host you with a short tour and exhibition introduction. For more information, please contact Front of House, foh@artspace.org.au.

Venue Hire

Is Artspace available to hire for private events?

Yes, Artspace hosts a variety of private events in our multipurpose space, located on the accessible first floor of The Gunnery. If you’re interested in hosting your event at Artspace, please contact Ali Hillman, Development Manager, to discuss your proposal and requirements.

General

How is Artspace funded?

Artspace is supported by the New South Wales Government through Create NSW. It is assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia its principal arts funding and advisory body; and the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, State and Territory Governments. We receive additional ongoing support from the generous contributions of our dedicated community of partners and benefactors.

How can I work at Artspace?

Employment opportunities at Artspace are advertised in our News page on this website when they are available. If you would like to be kept informed about future employment opportunities at Artspace, we encourage you to join our mailing list and/or follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

Do you have an internship or volunteer program?

We occasionally engage interns through university-based professional development programs where interns gain credit towards their degree. If you are interested in internship opportunities at Artspace, please submit an expression of interest to our Front of House team at foh@artspace.org.au.

Does Artspace have a membership program?

Artspace does not have a membership program, but if you are interested in becoming more involved you can join our mailing list for information about upcoming programs and events. If you would like to support Artspace, we have a number of newly developed programs for giving which you can read about here.

How can I access Artspace's publications?

Artspace is currently digitising selected publications, which will be made available online. Users will be able to access select articles free of charge, or they can opt to purchase full digital copies (as a PDF) or the original printed publications. You can access our searchable publication index here.

Does Artspace sell art?

Artspace does not sell artworks to the public. We present works that have been commissioned specifically for an exhibition, or which are on loan from artists, other institutions, or collections. Artspace is a non-collecting institution.

Can I get permission to use images of artworks?

If you require images for publication alongside a review or article, please contact Masha Jayasiri, Communications Manager, who can assist with your enquiry.
