Join us for a conversation between Naomi Beckwith, Artistic Director of documenta 16 and Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Guggenheim Museum, and Bruce Johnson McLean, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain First Nations Curatorial Fellow at the 2026 Biennale of Sydney and a leading First Nations curator from Australia. The discussion will be moderated by Victor Wang, Executive Director of Artspace Sydney.

Presented in partnership with the Goethe Institut Australia, the conversation will focus on their respective approaches to curating in a rapidly shifting institutional and cultural landscape. Beckwith and Johnson McLean will reflect on how curatorial practice today navigates a world marked by social fragmentation and geopolitical change, and what this means for the role of museums and major exhibitions.

Drawing on their experience across international exhibitions and institutions, the speakers will reflect on how curatorial practice can open space for conversation and new forms of collective understanding. Particular attention will be given to questions of representation, plurality, and the need to support underrepresented voices and perspectives within contemporary art institutions. Through reflections on their own experiences and curatorial frameworks, the speakers will also discuss emerging models of institutional leadership and the possibility of diverse ways of 'being a museum' today.

Free, registrations are essential.
