Sue Jo Wright

Sue Jo Wright is a Deaf artist working across textiles, photography and video storytelling. Grounded in Auslan, her practice explores language through layered expressions of identity, belonging and Deaf culture. Through embroidery and moving image, Wright shares a perspective of the world as experienced by a Deaf person, while examining communication as an expanded, embodied experience.

Wright presented her first solo exhibition, Signs of Time, at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf (2024). Her work has been exhibited at the Australian Design Centre, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and Lismore Regional Gallery, among others. Wright is a six-time finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award.
