Haji Oh

Haji Oh is an artist and third-generation member of Japan’s Zainichi Korean community, born and raised in Japan, now based in Australia.

Oh creates installation works using textile-making techniques, including weaving, dyeing and unravelling, alongside photography, cyanotype, sound and archival material.

Drawing on her heritage and personal history, her practice gives expression to the unspoken memories of women and unnamed individuals, exploring how memory, displacement and belonging are carried across generations. Her practice is rooted in community engagement, using workshops and collaborative processes to explore the transmission of memory.

Oh is the recipient of the Innovation Award at the Asia Pacific Arts Awards (2026), the Tokyo Contemporary Art Award (2024–26), and the Audience Prize at the ANTEPRIMA × CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize, Hong Kong (2024).

Recent exhibitions include Wetland: Tokyo Contemporary Art Award (2024–26), Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; TOP 30th Anniversary: Contemporary Japanese Photography vol.22, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (2025); 11th Asia Pacific Triennial, QAGOMA (2024–25); and And Still I Rise at the Art Gallery of NSW (2025–27).

Oh has undertaken residencies at Gapado, Jeju, Korea (2025), and Bundanon (2022), and is represented by THIS IS NO FANTASY, Melbourne.
