Charles Levi

Charles Levi is a textile and installation artist whose practice reimagines the queer archive and the nuances of bodily labour through embroidered textile works. With a meticulous process and emphasis on hand making, Levi develops intricate compositions with an ornamental visual language and repetition at its core. Drawing upon textile traditions and coded symbolism, his works are layered with allegory and gestures that unfurl with complexity as they connect and translate vast historical references to a contemporary queer context.

Levi presented his debut solo exhibition, Luddite/Sodomite, at Firstdraft, Sydney (2024). Recent exhibitions include Art Brussels 40th Fair Edition with Ames Yavuz (2024). In 2025, Levi was named a finalist in the Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award.
