Welcome to Artspace Visual Arts Centre. We are a publicly funded organisation that works closely with artists from Australia and around the world to develop new ideas and practices in contemporary art.

In our large ground floor galleries we present an annual program of exhibitions encompassing a range of expressive forms in contemporary art: multimedia (including work based in interactive and other forms of developing technologies), installation, sculpture, video, performance and sound.

Artspace actively prioritises the ideas and practices of artists. Our programs explore theoretical frameworks for contemporary art and encourages examination of diverse social, political and visual processes that shape Australian culture within both regional and global frameworks.

Artspace provides stage 4-6 learning opportunities based on exhibition content that engages students with art criticism and art history.  Artspace provides a unique opportunity for students to apply their understanding of contemporary art through the OpenStudio@Artspace residency program. The program is a new and exciting development that provides public access to a resident artist/s actively working through the processes of development, installation and resolution of an artwork in a studio environment.

Artspace welcomes school groups and encourages teachers and students to explore and critique our exhibitions. To ensure your school visit is a success teachers are encouraged to access our exhibition resource materials before visiting the gallery. These resources have been designed to enhance students’ experience of exhibitions and provide valuable insight into the art practices of exhibiting artists. To access our education resources follow the links or contacting our education representative.
