Exploring the idea that formal philosophical logic determines validity on the basis of form without needing to know content, Simon Denny aimed to translate some logical structures to a video installation format, comparing the form of the medium to the form of an argument.

Overview

Exploring the idea that formal philosophical logic determines validity on the basis of form without needing to know content, Simon Denny aimed to translate some logical structures to a video installation format, comparing the form of the medium to the form of an argument. During his residency period in Sydney, Denny attended a course at the University of Sydney on introductory logic, which he documented by creating videos that teach small points that derive from the course. Halfway between a tutorial video and a videotheque, Denny's exhibition also documented Artspace's entire inventory of monitors serving as a record of the display hardware of the institution.

This project was supported by Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.
