Overview

Following his acceptance of the 20th Telstra Aboriginal Art Award wearing the infamous ‘White Girl’s Can’t Hump’ t-shirt, Richard Bell returns to the public stage with a defiant performance piece to take place at Artspace this June.

Witness Bell and friends in the ring to take on white Australia in a searing examination of the black/white dichotomy, up against old foes as he critiques all those marginalised by the old bi-polar oppositions still wreaking havoc in Australia today: male/female, straight/gay, black/white, local/ethnic, right/left.

Taking the form of a three round symbolic wrestling/boxing match, Bell’s challenge to the cultural gatekeepers will exclude no one. No one will be safe from criticism, not even chardonnay sipping socialists.
