The NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship is Artspace’s key exhibition for profiling the dynamism and breadth of emerging contemporary artistic practice in NSW.
We are pleased to announce the finalists for the 2023 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging): Maddison Gibbs, Morgan Hogg, Nadia Odlum, EJ Son, Natalie Quan Yau Tso, and Min Wong.
The NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging), valued at $30,000, is offered by the NSW Government through Create NSW to enable a visual artist at the beginning of their career to undertake a self-directed program of professional development.
The finalist exhibition will be co-presented by Artspace at Carriageworks between 27 July – 27 August while our home at The Gunnery undergoes major redevelopment. This edition will be co-curated by Artspace’s Executive Director, Alexie Glass-Kantor; Curator, Talia Linz; Associate Curator, Sarah Rose; and Carriageworks’ Associate Curator, Visual Arts, Stephanie Berlangieri.
The curators said:
Artspace and Carriageworks are thrilled to be working together to curate and present the NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging). We share a commitment to supporting generations of emerging artists and this year's finalists are a strong cohort with diverse practices and ideas. As a curatorium we will offer professional development through curatorial advocacy and engagement, bringing together artists and audiences for this highly anticipated exhibition.
Each year, Create NSW convenes a judging panel of esteemed colleagues to assess the highly competitive pool of applications and select the exhibition finalists and the Fellowship recipient.
The 2023 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) is developed and curated by Artspace, Sydney, in partnership with the NSW Government through Create NSW, and presented with Carriageworks.
