Artspace and Arts NSW are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2016 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) valued at $30,000. This Fellowship is offered by the NSW Government through Arts NSW to enable a visual artist at the beginning of their career to undertake a self-directed program of professional development. A shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of peers managed by Arts NSW to participate in an exhibition at Artspace from 8 November to 10 December 2016.

The Fellowship is Artspace’s key exhibition for profiling the dynamism and breadth of emerging contemporary artistic practice in NSW, and builds upon our ongoing commitment to supporting emerging artists through curatorial development and dialogue. Executive Director Alexie Glass-Kantor and Artspace Curator Talia Linz will co-curate the exhibition, collaborating closely with each artist through a series of studio visits and mentored exchanges to further develop their work for the finalists’ presentation in November.

Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant encourages visual artists to apply for the Fellowship, which enables recipients to undertake activities including travel, mentorships, internships, courses, research and the creation of new works.

‘The NSW Government is proud to offer this Fellowship as part of our commitment to supporting the professional development of artists in NSW,” Mr Grant said, “Supporting artists across all art forms is a key part of our Government’s Create in NSW 10-year policy framework to grow a thriving, globally connected arts and cultural sector. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging visual artists to gain recognition for their work, exhibit in an internationally recognised arts centre, and receive support for their professional development.’
